Key Care Instructions:
  • Light & Location: Full sun is essential. It thrives in hot, dry conditions.
  • Soil & Drainage: Needs excellent drainage (sandy or gravelly soil). If soil is heavy clay, plant on slopes or in raised beds.
  • Watering: Water regularly during the first year to establish roots, but allow soil to dry out between waterings thereafter. Mature plants are drought-tolerant and dislike "wet feet".
  • Fertilizing: Minimal or no fertilizer is needed; too much can inhibit flowering.
  • Pruning & Maintenance:
    • Deadheading: Remove faded, rabbit-ear-like bracts and flower stalks to encourage more blooms.
    • Pruning: Shear or prune by up to one-third after the first spring bloom to maintain a compact shape.
    • Avoid: Do not cut into old, brown wood, as it may not regenerate.
  • Container Growing: Use a well-draining, gritty potting mix, and protect pots from freezing in winter.
  • Winter Care: While more cold-sensitive than other lavenders, it can tolerate light frosts but needs protection in colder climate
