Key Care Guidelines:
-
- Light: Deep to partial shade. Protect from direct, harsh sun, which causes leaf burn.
- Water: Keep soil moist during spring/summer, but allow it to dry out slightly between waterings to avoid root rot. Reduce watering significantly in winter, only watering when the soil is completely dry.
- Soil: Well-draining, nutrient-rich soil, or a mix of potting soil, peat, and perlite.
- Temperature: Prefer cool, frost-free conditions (50°F/10°C in winter is ideal for inducing blooms).
- Feeding: Use an organic slow-release 2:3:2 or 3:1:5 fertilizer during spring and summer.
- Potting: They prefer to be root-bound and only need repotting every 4-5 years.
- Pests: Watch for the Lily Borer, a black and yellow striped caterpillar that tunnels into leaves.
- Division: Divide crowded clumps in early summer after flowering
